Lanolin is a wax secreted by the sebaceous glands of sheep to protect them from dehydration and extreme weather conditions.
Although it has been known about since Ancient Greek times, it is only in recent decades, with the development of hydrogenation processes, that we have been able to use it as a moisturising ingredient in cosmetics and topical medicine.
Esperis has also been part of this development and in 1955 we developed our internationally patented product Lanocerina (hydrogenated lanolin).
Today lanolin is used in many cosmetic products including skin moisturisers, hand and foot products, hair care products, and lipsticks.
Lanolin allows the skin to stay soft and hydrated.
Our company was one of the first to produce lanolin-based ingredients for both the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries and it now offers a complete range of the very highest quality derivatives.
POPULAR LANOLIN DERIVATIVES
Lanocerina
Code: LANOC.1
Inci: HYDROGENATED LANOLIN
Description: Lanocerina has been designed and internationally patented by Esperis and is made exclusively by the company. As its name indicates, Lanocerina is derived from lanolin and, more precisely, 100% hydrogenated lanolin. As is well known, standard lanolin (both untreated and processed) is a common excipient for use in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.
POPULAR LANOLIN DERIVATIVES
Lanidrol
Code: LANI.1
Inci: PEG 20 HYDROGENATED LANOLIN
Description: An ethylene-oxide condensed derivative of Lanocerin. This non-ionic derivative is completely water soluble and stable at all pH values. In water it forms a stable transparent gel. It is used in cosmetic preparations that require a particularly softening action and in water-soluble products.
POPULAR LANOLIN DERIVATIVES
Lanolin oil
Code: OLIO99
Inci: LANOLIN OIL
Description: Lanolin oil is extracted through fractional crystallisation of pharmaceutical grade Lanolin. Its chemical composition is made up of acid esters and fatty alcohols. It has all the properties of lanolin but it is softer, clearer and less sticky. Lanolin oil is used in the preparation of make-up products (particularly lipstick, lip gloss, mascara) and also face and body creams and lotions.
Dosage: 2-10%.
POPULAR LANOLIN DERIVATIVES
Anhydrous lanolin extra
Code: LANOL.1
Inci: LANOLIN
Description: As it does not contain triglycerides, this is a wax not an oil.
In addition to esters, it also contains free alcohols (mainly sterols) which give it its ability to absorb water. This complex purified blend is soft and sticky substance with a greasy texture, a pale yellow colour and a distinctive smell. It is able to absorb large quantities of water without losing its consistency and is a go-to product in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries for things like making ointments, creams, unguents and as a base ingredient. Available in packs of 9 and 50 kg
